    About this tool

This converter turns a Word document into a PDF without sending it anywhere. The .docx file is opened and laid out inside your browser, which makes it suitable for CVs, contracts, coursework and anything else you would rather not upload to a stranger's server. The output is a real PDF with real text, not a picture of your document. You can select and search the text, it stays sharp at any zoom level, and the file stays small. Headings keep their hierarchy, bulleted and numbered lists keep their numbering, tables keep their rows and columns, and bold, italic, underline and strikethrough carry across. Pictures embedded in the document are included at their natural size, scaled down only if they would not fit the page. Links stay clickable. The PDF is laid out fresh rather than copied from Word's own page layout, so it will not be a pixel-for-pixel match. Your fonts are replaced with Roboto, text alignment and colours are not carried over, and headers, footers, footnotes, text boxes and tracked changes are left out. For a one-to-one copy of a heavily designed document, Word's own File, Save As, PDF is still the most faithful option. For the everyday case, a document you mostly care about the words in, this gets you a clean, readable PDF in a couple of seconds on any device, including phones and Chromebooks that have no Word installed. Only the modern .docx format is supported. If you have an older .doc file, open it in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs and save it as .docx first. The embedded font covers Latin, Greek and Cyrillic alphabets; documents written in Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, Chinese or other scripts will not display correctly, and the tool warns you when it detects them.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a Word document to PDF for free?

Upload the .docx file, choose a page size, click 'Convert to PDF', then click 'Download PDF'. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no file limit.

    Is my Word document uploaded?

No. The document is read and the PDF is created entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.

Can I convert an old .doc file?

Not directly. The .doc format is a closed binary format from before 2007. Open the file in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs, save it as .docx, then convert that.

Will the PDF look exactly like my Word document?

The structure and content carry over: headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, images and text styling. The exact look does not, because fonts are replaced with Roboto and alignment, colours, headers and footers are not included. For a pixel-perfect copy, use Save As PDF in Word itself.

Is the text in the PDF selectable?

Yes. The PDF contains real text with an embedded font, not an image of the page, so you can select, copy and search it.

Why are some of my images missing?

Older Word files often store drawings as EMF or WMF graphics, which web browsers cannot decode. The tool tells you how many images it had to leave out. Re-inserting them as PNG or JPEG in Word fixes it.
