About this tool
Render every page of a PDF as a separate image, then download the ones you want. The usual reason is that something will not take a PDF. Slide software wants a picture rather than an embedded document, a forum or a chat app will only accept images, a page needs to go into a report as a figure, or you want to show someone a single page without handing over the whole file. Screenshotting the page gives you whatever resolution your monitor happens to be; rendering it properly does not. Pages are rendered above nominal screen size and saved as PNG, which is lossless. That combination keeps small type legible when the image is dropped into a slide or scaled up, and it means the save itself adds no compression artefacts on top of what the PDF already contained. There is one conversion worth thinking about before you do it. A PDF's text is text: it can be searched, selected, copied and read aloud by a screen reader. Once a page becomes an image, all of that is gone, and no amount of resolution brings it back. That is genuinely useful when you want to stop text being lifted out of a document, and a real loss when you did not intend it. Going back through the Image to PDF tool rebuilds a PDF that looks the same but is no longer searchable. The document is opened and rendered inside your browser and never uploaded, which matters because the PDFs people convert are overwhelmingly contracts, statements and identity documents.
Frequently asked questions
How do I turn a PDF page into an image?
Upload the PDF and click Convert to Images. Every page is rendered separately and you can download them individually or all at once.
What format and resolution are the images?
PNG, rendered at a raised scale rather than at nominal screen size, so text stays crisp enough to read and to reuse in a slide or a document. PNG is lossless, so nothing is degraded further by the save.
Why would I convert a PDF to images?
To put a page into a slide or a document, to post a page somewhere that will not accept PDFs, to send a preview to someone without giving them the whole file, or to stop text being selected and copied out of a document you are circulating.
Can I convert just one page?
Every page is rendered, and you then download only the ones you want. There is no need to split the PDF first.
Can I turn the images back into a PDF?
Yes, with the Image to PDF tool. Be aware the round trip is lossy in a specific way: the text becomes pixels, so the result is no longer searchable or selectable even though it looks the same.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The document is opened and rendered in your browser, so it never leaves your device. That matters, because PDFs converted this way are usually contracts, statements and identity documents.
