    How to use this tool

    1. Upload a PDF. A preview of the first page appears with the watermark applied.
    2. Type the watermark text, for example CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, or 'Copy for Jane Smith'.
    3. Adjust the size, angle, colour and transparency, and choose a single centred watermark or a tiled pattern.
    4. Leave the page list empty to watermark every page, or type a range like '1-3, 7'. Then click 'Add watermark and download'.

    About this tool

A watermark tells anyone holding a copy of a document what it is: a draft that is not final, a confidential copy that should not be forwarded, or a copy issued to one named person. That last use is the most practical. When you send a bank statement, a payslip or an ID scan to a landlord or employer, a watermark such as "For ABC Lettings only, May 2026" makes the copy much less useful to anyone who gets hold of it later. This tool draws the watermark directly onto the pages of your PDF. Choose a single large mark across the centre of the page, or a tiled pattern repeated across the whole page, which is harder to crop or edit out. The angle can run diagonally up, diagonally down or straight across. Size, colour and transparency are all adjustable, and the preview shows the real result, rendered from the actual watermarked page, before you download anything. The watermark is added as text on top of the existing content, so the original pages are not re-rendered or re-compressed and keep their full quality. Transparency keeps the content underneath readable. Pages saved in rotated orientation are handled properly, so the watermark sits where you expect on landscape scans. The built-in PDF fonts cover English and Western European letters, including accents such as é, ü and ñ. Characters outside that set cannot be drawn, and the tool tells you which ones before you download rather than failing silently. The whole process runs in your browser. The document, which is likely to be exactly the kind of sensitive document people watermark, is never uploaded.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I add a watermark to a PDF?

Upload the PDF, type the watermark text, adjust the look using the live preview, then click 'Add watermark and download'.

Can I watermark only some pages?

Yes. Type the pages in the page list, for example '1' for the first page only or '2-5, 9' for a selection. Leave it empty to watermark every page.

    Can the watermark be removed?

A determined person with PDF editing software can remove any text watermark, including this one. The tiled layout makes it much harder to remove cleanly, which is why it is the better choice for documents you send to third parties.

Does the watermark reduce the quality of my PDF?

No. The watermark is added as a layer of text on top of each page. The original text and images are not touched or re-compressed.

Why can't I use some characters in the watermark?

The fonts built into every PDF reader only include English and Western European characters. Letters from other alphabets, and emoji, cannot be drawn with them. The tool lists any such characters so you can remove them.

    Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The watermark is applied in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
