About this tool
Lorem Ipsum Generator is an online, free tool that creates placeholder text for design mockups and layouts. No registration required! Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text since the 1500s. Use it to visualize how text will look in your designs without getting distracted by actual content.
Frequently asked questions
What is Lorem Ipsum?
A block of scrambled Latin, derived from a first century BC text by Cicero, that typesetters have used as placeholder copy since the 1500s. It exists so a layout can be judged on its shape and rhythm rather than on what the words say.
Why use placeholder text instead of real content?
Because readable content hijacks the review. Put real sentences in a mockup and everyone starts editing the copy instead of looking at the design; put obviously fake text in and the conversation stays on spacing, hierarchy and line length. Lorem Ipsum also has a letter distribution close to English, so the block looks about right on the page.
How much placeholder text should I generate?
Enough to fill the space you are actually designing for, and no more. One or two paragraphs test a card or a summary block; five or more show you what a long article looks like and whether your line length and paragraph spacing hold up over a full screen.
Can I use Lorem Ipsum in a live website?
You can, but do not. Placeholder text left in a published page gets indexed by search engines, confuses visitors, and is a well known way for a draft to embarrass someone. Search for 'lorem' before launching anything.
Is the generated text always the same?
The vocabulary comes from the traditional Lorem Ipsum word pool, so it will always look familiar, but click Generate again for a different arrangement whenever you want a fresh block.
Do I need an account to use this?
No. There is no signup, no login and no limit on how much you generate. Everything happens in your browser.
