About this tool
A transparent PNG is an image with no background at all. The pixels carry an alpha channel that lets whatever sits behind the image show through. This generator creates one at any size, instantly. Transparent PNGs are what you need for overlays, watermark layers, logo placeholders, sprite sheets, spacer images in email templates, and any case where a white rectangle would be visibly wrong. A common confusion is worth clearing up: a white PNG and a transparent PNG look identical on a white page, but they behave completely differently. Place both on a dark background and the white one shows as a bright rectangle while the transparent one disappears. If your "transparent" image is showing a white box somewhere, it was almost certainly saved as JPG at some point. JPG cannot store transparency at all, so any transparent area is flattened to white. The file produced here is a true 32-bit PNG with an alpha channel, generated in your browser and downloaded directly.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make a transparent PNG?
Choose your size above and click Generate & Download. The background is already set to transparent, so the file saves with a real alpha channel and no visible background.
Why does my transparent PNG show a white background?
Usually because the file was converted to JPG somewhere along the way. JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas become white. Check that the file is still a .png, and that whatever app you opened it in supports alpha channels.
What is the difference between a transparent PNG and a white PNG?
They look identical on a white page but behave differently everywhere else. A white PNG contains white pixels; a transparent PNG contains no pixels at all in those areas, so the background behind it shows through. On a dark background the difference is obvious.
Can I use a transparent PNG as a placeholder or spacer?
Yes, that is one of the most common uses. A transparent PNG at a set size reserves space in a layout or an email template without introducing any visible colour.
Does the transparency survive when I upload it elsewhere?
That depends on the destination. Most platforms preserve PNG transparency, but some convert uploads to JPG for compression, which flattens transparency to white. Test on the target platform if it matters.
