    Frequently asked questions

How do I record lap times?

Press Lap while the stopwatch is running. Each press records the time since the previous lap and keeps the total running, so you build a list of splits without ever stopping the clock.

What is the difference between a lap time and a split time?

A lap is the duration of one segment on its own. A split is the total elapsed time at the moment that segment ended. Lap times tell you which segment was fastest; split times tell you whether you are ahead of an overall target.

    How precise is the stopwatch?

It displays to ten milliseconds and measures against the system clock rather than counting frames, so the elapsed total stays accurate even if the browser throttles rendering. Human reaction time when pressing the button is a far larger source of error than the timing itself.

Are my best and worst laps marked?

Yes. Once you have more than one lap the fastest and slowest are highlighted, which is the comparison you actually want when reviewing a set of intervals rather than reading raw numbers.

Does the stopwatch keep running if I switch tabs?

Yes. Elapsed time is calculated from timestamps rather than accumulated tick by tick, so a throttled background tab shows the correct time as soon as you come back to it.

    Are my lap times saved?

No. Everything lives in the page while it is open, and resetting or reloading clears it. Nothing is uploaded or stored, so copy anything you want to keep before you close the tab.
