    How to use this tool

    1. Click the upload area and choose an image.
    2. Turn on Flip Horizontal to mirror the picture left to right, the way a mirror would.
    3. Turn on Flip Vertical to mirror it top to bottom.
    4. Both can be on at once, which is the same as turning the image 180 degrees.
    5. Check the preview, then click Download to save the flipped copy.

    About this tool

Mirror a picture along either axis and save the result. Flipping is not the same as rotating, and the difference matters. Rotating turns the whole picture around a point and everything in it stays readable. Flipping reflects it, which reverses the image: text becomes mirror writing, a person's parting swaps sides, and anything asymmetric is handedness-reversed. That is exactly what you want for some jobs and exactly what ruins others. The cases where you want it: correcting a selfie, which most phone cameras save mirrored so it matches what you saw in the viewfinder rather than what a photograph of you would look like; making a design element face the other way so it points into a layout instead of out of it; preparing artwork for iron-on transfer or screen printing, where the image has to be reversed to come out the right way round; and building a symmetrical pattern from a single tile. Horizontal flips a picture left to right. Vertical flips it top to bottom, which is less common and mostly used for reflections. Turning both on at once is identical to a 180 degree rotation, because two perpendicular reflections compose into a half turn. Flipping is exactly lossless: no pixel value changes, they only move. The output is a PNG, and the work happens in your browser with no upload.

    Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between flipping and rotating an image?

Rotating turns the picture around its centre and everything stays the right way round. Flipping mirrors it, which reverses the image: any text in it reads backwards and anything asymmetric swaps sides. If your photo is sideways use the Image Rotator; if you want a mirror image, flip it.

How do I mirror a photo horizontally?

Upload it and switch on Flip Horizontal. The preview updates straight away so you can see the effect before you commit, then click Download to save it.

Why does my selfie look wrong until I flip it?

Most phone front cameras show and often save a mirrored preview so it matches what you see in a mirror. A photograph taken of you by someone else is not mirrored, which is why your own selfies can look subtly off. Flipping horizontally gives you the unmirrored version.

Can I flip horizontally and vertically at the same time?

Yes. Turning both on gives the same result as rotating the image 180 degrees, because two perpendicular reflections compose into a half turn.

    Does flipping reduce image quality?

No. Flipping only moves pixels to mirrored positions; no value is interpolated or recalculated. The saved PNG is lossless, so the download is pixel for pixel as good as the original.

Will text in my image be readable after flipping?

No, and that is expected. A mirrored image mirrors everything in it, so text reads backwards. That is precisely what you want when preparing artwork for an iron-on transfer, and precisely what you do not want in a document, where you should rotate rather than flip.

    Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The flip is drawn on a canvas in your own browser. Nothing is sent to a server, stored or logged.
