    Weekend days

Enter an end date to see the days between.

    How to use this tool

    1. Enter a start date and an end date, in either order. The calculator sorts them automatically.
    2. Read the day count straight away. It updates as you change either date.
    3. Check both the exclusive count (nights between the dates) and the inclusive count (both dates counted), since 'how many days' means different things depending on what you're booking or billing.
    4. Choose a weekend definition to see how many of those days are weekdays versus weekend days, useful for deadlines counted in business days.

    About this tool

Ask "how many days between the 1st and the 8th" and there are two correct answers: 7 nights if you're counting the gap between them, or 8 days if you're counting every date including both ends. Most date calculators quietly pick one and never say which, which is exactly the ambiguity that causes a booking to be a day short or a billing period to be a day long. This tool shows both numbers, labelled, every time. It also breaks the gap down the way a form usually asks for it: full years, then leftover months, then leftover days, using the real length of each calendar month rather than a flat 30-day assumption. And it counts weekdays and weekend days separately, with a choice of which days count as the weekend (Saturday and Sunday, Friday and Saturday, or Sunday only), which matters for a deadline stated in business days rather than calendar days. Dates are parsed as local calendar dates, not as UTC timestamps, and the day count is computed as whole calendar days rather than elapsed hours. That avoids the off-by-one bug most homemade date calculators have: subtracting two JavaScript Date objects directly can lose or gain an hour across a daylight saving change, which silently shifts a day count by one twice a year. Everything runs in your browser; no date you enter is uploaded or stored.

    Frequently asked questions

How many days are there between two dates?

It depends whether you count both dates or only the gap between them. This tool shows both: the exclusive count is the number of nights or full days between the two dates, and the inclusive count adds one to also count the start date itself. For the 1st to the 8th, that's 7 nights exclusive or 8 days inclusive.

Why do I get a different answer from another date calculator?

Almost always because it only shows one of the two counts above without labelling which, or because it parses dates as UTC timestamps and reads them back in your local timezone, which can shift the result by a day. This tool labels both counts and treats dates as plain calendar dates throughout, so the answer doesn't depend on where you are.

What does the business days count include?

It splits the inclusive date range into weekdays and weekend days, based on whichever weekend definition you choose. It does not exclude public holidays, since those vary by country and calendar; it is a weekday count, not a working-day count once holidays are removed.

Can I put the later date first?

Yes. The two dates are sorted automatically, so it doesn't matter which field you fill in as the earlier one. Use the swap button to flip them if you'd rather read the fields the other way round.

Does the calculator account for leap years?

Yes. The day counts and the years/months/days breakdown are both computed by walking the real calendar, including every 29 February that falls in the range, rather than by an approximate 365-day-year formula.

    Are my dates sent anywhere?

No. The entire calculation runs in JavaScript in your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded, logged, or stored.
